Two Small Earthquakes Detected Near Seixal: Authorities Monitor Seismic Activity

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) reported two small earthquakes off the coast of Seixal, located in the Greater Lisbon area, this Tuesday.


The first tremor occurred at 10:36 AM, registering a magnitude of 2.4 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was located approximately 12 kilometres south-west of Seixal.


The second earthquake was detected at 11:34 AM, with a magnitude of 1.8 on the same scale, and had its epicentre in the same region.


These seismic events come after a stronger earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale, which was recorded on Monday, 17 February, with the epicentre around 14 kilometres west-south-west of Seixal.


So far, no damage to property or injuries have been reported from these tremors.

Local authorities and the IPMA continue to monitor seismic activity in the region, advising the public to stay informed through official channels.
